The few, the proud, the exemplary
Cornell has announced the 2013 recipients of the Frank H.T. Rhodes Exemplary Alumni Service Award, which honors alumni who have given exceptional, long-term volunteer service to Cornell. They are:
Ruth Z. Bleyler '62, a life member of the Cornell University Council and newly elected president of the Class of 1962, has served Cornell over several decades including as Tower Club chairperson and a member of the advisory councils for Student and Academic Services and Cornell Plantations (which she currently chairs).
Ann Schmeltz Bowers '59, a trustee emerita who has served on many committees and advisory boards for Cornell and as a presidential councillor, is a founding member of the Cornell Silicon Valley Program.
Samuel C. Fleming '62, a trustee emeritus and presidential councillor, has chaired the Life Sciences Advisory Board since 2005 and served on the Engineering College Advisory Council since 1996. He also is a member of the Weill Cornell Board of Overseers. Fleming and his wife, Nancy, host alumni events in the Boston area.
Robert A. Huret '65 has served as an alumni-elected trustee, a member of the Athletics Advisory Council since 2006, and on the University Council since 2010. He successfully spearheaded a participation challenge for the Class of 1996 senior class fundraising campaign and was the 2005 recipient of the Jerome Alpern Distinguished Alumni Award from the ILR School.
Ronay A. Menschel '64, a trustee emerita and Class of 1964 Class Council member, has dedicated much time, passion and expertise to the College of Arts and Sciences, the Weill Cornell Board of Overseers and President's Council of Cornell Women.
Alan S. Rosenthal '59 has served in many volunteer roles at Cornell, including on the boards of the Cornell Engineering Alumni Association and Cornell Hillel. He is a life member of the University Council and a frequent guest lecturer and student mentor.
A dinner will be held in honor of this year's award winners Sept. 20 during Homecoming Weekend on campus.
